On her way to releasing an eclectic stream of releases, Kestrel might not be your typical artist. A keen singer and pianist from a young age, the talented songstress feels at home in a variety of different contexts, be it uplifting pop grooves, guitar-based material, or even Christian-driven anthems. This time around, the Isle of Man-based creative settles on a rather euphoric and dancy direction, unveiling the synth-pop flavoured, disco piece ‘Apricot Sunshine’.
The perfect companion for summer, the record sees Kestrel flourish on a luscious, glittering pop beat with a certain dancefloor-esque charisma, together with a cascade of bright and electrifying synths that are a joy to listen to. Kestrel’s vocals are the cherry on the cake, commanding the listeners’ attention with elegance and savoir-faire. The British talent boasts a precise tone, continuously delivering heartwarming melodies and playful motifs.
Delving deeper into the inspiration behind ‘Apricot Sunshine’, Kestrel explains: “For Apricot Sunshine I wanted to blend modern synth wave/nu-disco music with the melodic chord changes of the 80’s..like bringing in a more ‘major’ sound towards the end of the tune, alongside the riff throughout which has an electronic dark edge.. using musical storytelling to create a vibe that feels both retro and futuristic.”
