Kentucky Trust Fund Unveil Debut Album ‘Last Flight’

‘Last Flight’ is a wholesome, relatable album packed with great songs and expert musicianship.

A long time in the making, ‘Last Flight’ marks the debut album by Americana outfit Kentucky Trust Fund. Hailing from the Sacramento area in California, the project has been active since 2018, blessing local venues and playful audiences with a vibrant and brooding blend of folk, rock, and overall Americana allure. What more could you wish for? Kentucky Trust Fund heavily focus on their songs, shifting between male and female vocals at a moment’s notice. Such a prominent electicism helps make ‘Last Flight’ a truly diverse and long album, boasting a great deal of harmony-driven goodness and heartwarming acoustic guitars.

‘I’m Coming Back’ introduces the record with playful and kinetic appeal, a percussion-heavy arrangement that feels incredibly grounded and lively. Yet, as the piece develops, a layer of evocative matter seems to emerge from the fold, a striking example of how Kentucky Trust Fund manages to walk the fine line between gloominess and daylight. It’s storytelling as it should be done: relatable, meaningful songs with a great deal of musical fervour. Further on, ‘The Last Flight out of Saigon’ showcases the project’s signature mandolin dynamism, a feature that adds tons of peculiar character to an already energetic project.

Delving deeper into ‘Last Flight’, Kentucky Trust Fund explain: “The new album is 52 minutes of our signature sound: moving, swelling dynamics, love-forward lyrics (and some snark), and mandolin solos that can either melt your face or lift your heart (frequently both).” Overall, this is an album that won’t require extreme abstraction or deep concentration; instead, listeners will enjoy a number of great songs, just like it was always meant to be.
