Marking Kaxi’s comeback single, ‘Torture’ appears to spark a new era of creative glory for the Indian-born, London-based artist. On a hiatus since 2023, Kaxi hasn’t lost his quirky, evocative allure, with ‘Torture’ embracing a soothingly euphoric flair, part anthemic and part hazy. Honestly, it’s a really good effort. Known for his forays into pop, R&B and hip-hop territories, the self-taught musician has now landed on a dreamy, eclectic formula, one that’s electronically rich and detailed, still maintaining the project’s poignant charge and meaningful ethos.
‘Torture’ benefits from the help of co-producers Andy Strange (Robbie Williams, Paolo Nutini) and Inlovewtheart (of creative collective Jska), giving the piece a polished, luscious sonic livery. Kaxi’s vocals haven’t lost their legendary atmospheric quality, although they are leading more heavily into expressive melodies and cathartic harmonies. Overall, ‘Torture’ is a wonderful offering from Kaxi, a single that’s perfectly counterpointed by ‘PRBLM’, the latest piece of the puzzle, out now.
Delving deeper into ‘Torture’, Kaxi explains: “It isn’t just a single; it’s the start of something deeper. A reminder that vulnerability sounds powerful, this track is about owning your pain and finding freedom. It’s ugly, it’s beautiful – just like growth.”
