Kat Kikta Deals with Lost Love in Cathartic Piece ‘Was It Almost Love?’

It hasn’t been long since we wrote about Kat Kikta, yet the London-based creative and visionary is back with another cathartic, precious effort, ‘Was It Almost Love?’. Moving with crepuscular softness and haunting, liminal energy, the piece seeks to celebrate the painful and personal emotional process that often follows a heartbreak; the journey to self-love and independence. From a sonic standpoint, ‘Was It Almost Love?’ offers a striking look at the Kat Kikta that we know and love, with her soft-delivered lyrics, hypnotic spoken words, cinematic textures and boundary-pushing sound design.

It appears as if Kikta is refining her sonic formula release after release, now getting dangerously close to a meditative state, so much so that her music has transcended into healing goodness. It’s certainly not a casual listening experience; approaching ‘Was It Almost Love?’ requires commitment and vulnerability. If one can do that, the reward will be immense.

As Kat explains: “It is a song for anyone who’s been broken-hearted, ghosted, and left wondering if that’s all they deserve in this life? We’re not meant to die with the ending of a relationship – but sometimes it feels that way. I wish this song brings hope, illumination and closure to those relationships which didn’t get closure.”
