Marking Kam Boora’s latest release, ‘What About Me’ unveils an intriguing listening experience, a playful and intense aural journey that’s vivid and introspective, but also uplifting and engaging. One thing we would like to praise, above all, is Boora’s vocal flow. He moves with incredible speed, jumping from line to line like an experienced wordsmith. This is not merely rap music; this is contemporary poetry! Of course, Kam manages to take his gift for rhythm and storytelling and package it into one hard-hitting and relatable record. That’s pretty much what ‘What About Me’ is about.
Influenced by personal circumstances, the British-South Asian artist approaches the subject matter with quiet confidence, never taking himself too seriously. At the same time, his words and vocal delivery exude a certain amount of fierceness, a sign that the Gravesend-based rapper has clear ideas about where he is headed. Previously championed by the BBC Asian Network, among others, Kam Boora is on his way up.
Delving deeper into ‘What About Me’, Boora explains: “I definitely went in on this one… ‘What About Me’ was written at a point where I was doing a lot of travelling, meeting new people and being around different energies, which naturally led to a lot of self-reflection. In this case, I actually found that process fun. For me, the main thing with this song is checking back in with yourself and staying grounded in your experiences, what keeps you going and where you come from.”
