Kailie Simpson Returns with Disruptive, Empowering Cut ‘Woman’

Serving a slice of roaring and magnetic rock’n’roll euphoria, ‘Woman’ sends a relatively simple yet hard-hitting message. In fact, it’s a refreshing take on an often male-dominated topic, embodying the sultry, charming and electrifying call for love and lust that we have come to know from all the greats in the rock scene over the past few decades. Only, this time it’s delivered by Kailie Simpson, from a woman’s perspective, reclaiming the narrative and writing her own story, one that’s fierce and unfiltered, just as we would expect from the American rocker.

From a sonic standpoint, the formula is straightforward; old-school guitar-powered goodness with a great deal of charisma and lusciousness. Among fuzzy distortions and rolling drums, Simpson fully confirms her god-like status, completely hypnotising the listeners into a high-octane, intense lyrical journey. We are confident fellow women will relate to the song, as Kailie explains: “I want more rock music written by women. ‘Woman’ is my take on that. A song about what we want from men. It’s playful and sexy, but it’s not about needing anyone. It’s about wanting them, on our own terms.”

What’s more, the piece features a music video with an all-female lineup, directed by Briana Sista and Simpson herself. Recorded at Big and Tall Recording Studio in New Jersey, ‘Woman’ is one of Kailie’s most empowering efforts to date, not just from an aural perspective, but from a visual one, with a bold, proud ethos that celebrates womanhood and authenticity.
