Julianna Joy Gears Up for Upcoming Album with ‘Better’

Both haunting and euphoric, ‘Better’ moves with purpose and fierceness, capturing the listener’s attention thanks to a dynamic blend of heart-shaking, twitchy synth goodness and fuzzy, sharp guitars. Such a hard-hitting, striking formula is the perfect match for Julianna Joy. Operating out of Los Angeles, the young songstress champions a rather eclectic take on her artistry, navigating alt-pop with an ever-evolving degree of comfort and anger. ‘Better’ finds itself towards the darker end of the spectrum.

Self-described as a “sci-fi alt-pop anthem” by Joy herself, the single also serves as a delicious entreé to Julianna’s upcoming debut album, ‘SOMEBODY CALL THE FIREMEN!’. If ‘Better’ is anything to go by, we are in for a stunningly charming record. Perhaps taking a look at the project’s previous singles may help: ‘The Year I Lived As You’ and ‘Goldstar’ are decisively brighter and more playful, even from a sonic perspective. In a sense, Joy likes to oscillate between dreaminess and fervour, while maintaining the same relatable, witty storytelling that she’s been known for.

Originally written during Julianna’s senior high school year, ‘Better’ has now bloomed into a darkpop anthem, the kind of song that’s hard to forget. Joy’s vocals complete the artistic picture perfectly, moving with understated elegance and intimate poignancy. Part bedroom pop and part arena-ready banger, the single is your new favourite record – isn’t that true?
