It’s known that art can often come to the rescue in dark times, as we all benefit from its moral guidance and fearless imagery. Well, ‘One Love’ fits the brief, uncovering a lyrical journey that honours togetherness and conflict resolution. It’s a call for unity and love, a strikingly unapologetic piece in what is now a gloomy, complex period. Built on ethereal and catchy electro-pop, the record sees Canadian collective Julia Sound returning with their first release of the year. Collaborators Dolly De Guerre and Yo Megasonic join the adventure on vocals and rapping, respectively.
The brainchild of Canadian producer and songwriter Lin Gardiner, Julia Sound has come a long way since its inception in 2020. Sporting a global identity and a highly collaborative ethos, the outfit has now grown into an expansive, plastic entity, spearheaded by Gardiner’s bold artistic vision. De Guerre and Yo Megasonic are a perfect match in that regard, lending their lyrical virtuosity to Lin’s cause. Clocking in at just under four minutes, ‘One Love’ feels particularly relevant and timely, an effort that reveals Julia Sound’s overall observant allure.
Delving deeper into the record, Gardiner explains: “I wanted to make a track that focuses on love and unity, even in times of both personal and global adversity. I knew that Dolly and Yo would bring their magic to this one, and they didn’t disappoint.” Mission accomplished: for many around the world, listening to ‘One Love’ will mark a moment of hope and positivity. The single is out now via Boomsmack Records.
