For the uninitiated, Julia Jade’s evocative and stripped-back brand of indie pop will take some adjusting; after all, one doesn’t come across such a wholesome and relatable project every day. Favouring lyrical accuracy over sonic euphoria, the Los Angeles-based creative finds a heartwarming refuge in charming, quaint pop tones and gentle orchestral atmosphere, the perfect match for her tender, sincere vocals. Some would say that Julia Jade’s music is incredibly approachable, packed with straightforward yet meaningful lyricism.
We tend to agree with that. An EP of remixes and a playful, quirky music video provide our point of entry into Jade’s artistic universe. You see, a few months back, Jade unveiled what we can only define as a masterpiece of a visual asset, an homage to the evergreen TV sensation The Office, framing ‘(extra)ordinary’ into a celebration of lasting love and appreciation for the ordinary. The same song now gets treated to four different remixes, all exhibiting a specific and diverse musical character.
Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the new Remix EP, Julia Jade explains: “I was really excited to put together this remix project as I think love and what makes it extraordinary varies from person to person… Everybody’s relationships look different from each other, and there isn’t just one way to love someone. I think that having multiple versions of these songs that depict separate vibes, demeanours, and personalities allows the song to have the amount of reach I hope it has…”.
