Joe Hodgson Crafts Elegant Orchestral Single ‘You I Think Of’

We got to know Joe Hodgson rather well earlier this year, featuring an interesting interview with the Northern Irish guitarist and musician. The article painted a striking picture of a committed, wise musician, a creative individual not afraid to take his own chances and carve out a unique path in the music industry. ‘You I Think Of’ marks Hodgson’s return, with a charmingly sweet and evocative single, out today.

Leaving temporarily behind his rock’n’roll identity, Joe jumps with both feet into a lovingly meaningful fusion-pop piece, one that’s further enriched by the Czech Philharmonic’s elegant strings. Such a unique and wonderful collaboration gives birth to a poignant single, one that’s still drenched in virtuoso guitar playing, just more spacious and controlled. Hodgson travelled to Prague, experiencing what he calls a “spine-tingling” recording session with the aforementioned classic ensemble.

As always, Joe’s music is written with purpose; ‘You I Think Of’ stems from an imaginary storyline, where the Irish talent envisioned “meeting and falling in love with a woman from Dublin. As the story gathered pace in my mind, I started playing melodies of my own over the same underlying chord sequence, and before I realised I had a complete piece of music composed.” In what’s a head-turning series of events, Hogdson did actually meet a woman from Dublin in real life, whom he now calls his wife.
