A striking example of Celtic goodness and traditional folk matter, ‘Here To Stay’ is both elegant and euphoric, with the hypnotic instrumental magic of Canadian fiddler Jocelyn Pettit and American cellist Ellen Gira helping the record stand out in the global folk landscape. Both an album and a title track – out now – ‘Here To Stay’ is also quite relatable and poppy, with a charming and uplifting vocal melody gracefully alternating with Petit and Gira’s string-powered aural catharsis.
Their second collaborative release to date, Jocelyn Pettit & Ellen Gira form quite a powerful duo, and it’s clear that they share the same creative genius. You see, the talented pair first met in Scotland, then returned to America to set up a shared project. It works incredibly well; not only are they great musicians, but also inspired storytellers, providing pieces of music that fully flourish on their own light. The album also features Montréal-based guest guitarist Everest Witman.
Delving deeper into the album, Pettit explains: “With inspiration from home and from touring adventures, Here To Stay combines traditional tunes and songs with more original material than our previous album. It’s a joy to be part of the vibrant traditional music community and to bring people together through music. We’re keen to help keep traditional music alive and celebrate this living tradition!”
