Otherwise known as a founding member of Myspace-era heroes McLovins, Jake Huffman holds a surprisingly large amount of solo potential, a feature that’s primarily obvious in his evocative, elegant vocals and vivid, personal songwriting. We are now miles away from Jake’s previous musical endeavours, as his latest effort, ‘The Endofme’, clearly showcases. Taken from the overarching EP of the same name, the track unfurls a sonic universe that’s incredibly detailed and nuanced, packed with electronic atmospheres and heartwarming beds of pop euphoria.
The word ‘warmth’ adapts well to everything we are hearing in this instance. The record is quite anthemic, but in a poignant way, with Huffman’s vibrant and nostalgic vocals embracing a relatable path that promises to wow even the most apathetic of listeners. As a bonus, the intensity rises as the track develops, thanks to Jake delivering intimate and meaningful lyricism. In a way, it mirrors a personal journey of reckoning, one that unfolds fully in ‘The Endofme’.
Delving deeper into the record, Huffman explains: “One of the most personal songs I’ve ever written. At the time, I was suffering from intense ocular migraines and experiencing vivid, often terrifying lucid dreams. I’d wake up unsure if I was still dreaming. This song is my attempt to capture those moments, not just the emotion, but the actual textures and sounds I heard while in those dream states.”
