We have spoken at length about London-based sonic alchemist Kat Kikta, especially due to her unconventional and introspective approach to music. Back in September ‘25, the project’s previous single ‘Was It Almost Love?’ found us in a rather prophetic mood, as we celebrated the piece as “getting dangerously close to a meditative state”. Mind you, there was no real danger; there were only blessings. Yet, our suspicions are now being confirmed, as Kikta unveils a pensive, haunting tune that well fits a meditation session. Here’s ‘Story’, a nocturne and hypnotic effort wrapped in mystery and moon-lit mysticism.
‘Story’ should be most enjoyed at nighttime, perhaps around a fire, or simply in a dark room. As we close our eyes and rest our minds, Kikta’s soothing tribal percussion enters the aural picture. Drops of water can be heard in the background. Gently, but firmly, Kat’s vocals catch our attention, transporting us into an alternative dimension, a healing space where we are called to confront our deepest fears. The goals are rebirth and renewal.

From a sonic standpoint, we are taken aback by the track’s functional minimalism. With just a few elements, Kikta manages to develop an expansive artistic continuum, all the while conserving a keen sense of space and calm, letting the piece breathe in a very organic way. Kat’s singing voice has always boasted leftfield roots, but here it’s really coming into its own, blurring the border between melodies and spoken words. We appreciate the longstanding commitment to her musical brand.
‘Story’ is out now, and an accompanying music video is set for release on January 28th. Delving deeper into the song, Kikta explains: “‘Story’ came to me in a dream, I aimed to translate the message I received without interfering with it, so I wanted to make a song that wasn’t lined up with a popular sound or a trending feel, a song that would come out of nowhere for someone and really connect like that, in a divine way.”
