At first glance, ‘Inside’ sounds incredibly electrifying and carefree, a slice of fierce retro-flavoured goodness served over gritty distortions and energetic riffs. Whichever way you look at it, there’s no doubt about the energy behind Herds. Hailing from Nottingham & Chesterfield, the talented English group champions a simple yet effective indie-rock ethos, an aural formula that manifests in fast-paced guitar action and catchy, future-proof melodies. Furthermore, the song is taken from a forthcoming third album.
Clearly, Herds are back in action. Previously known as The Amber Herd, the British outfit appears to have transitioned from their psych upbringings to a more contemporary brand of malleable rock goodness. We must praise them: Herds are attentive to what’s happening around them. In fact, ‘Inside’ is also pretty lean, from a sonic standpoint, even to the point of veering towards punk territories. The single is shipped with a stripped-back version of ‘over the lake’, whose original version will be included in the band’s future album.
Recorded at JT Soar by Phil Booth and mixed and mastered by Robin Newman at Snug Recording Co., ‘Inside’ provides a welcome comeback for herds. We can’t wait to see what’s next. You can catch the band at The International, Leicester, on Friday, 28th November.
