Helena May Returns with Brit-Funk Bonanza ‘Kinda Minor’

Working her way to a long-awaited EP – ‘Puzzle Piece: Side B’ – “Blue-Eyed Funky Soulstress” Helena May proudly shares ‘Kinda Minor’, a sonically rich, uplifting single that perfectly showcases the talented songstress and singer’s Brit-Funk bonanza. You see, May weaves in and out between elegance and euphoria. Her music carries a great deal of dance-inducing goodness, powered by an intricate web of funk-oriented rhythms. Yet, the listening experience never feels obvious or nostalgic, instead exposing Helena’s vocal charm and unmatched lusciousness.

Celebrated by an illustrious list of genre-focused tastemakers, such as Robert Elms on BBC Radio London and Simon Phillips on Jazz FM, it’s clear that May is enjoying an upward trajectory, a path that’s constantly supercharged release after release. ‘Kinda Minor’ doesn’t break the trend, finding a worthy refuge in tight and playful funk territories with a hint of cosmic flair. What more could you wish for? A slice of expansive, radiant, soulful aura that’s hard to resist.

As always, Helena May is joined by co-writer and producer Fabian Wollner, operating out of Sheep Hill Studios in Vienna. This time around, they take a modern approach to it all, with ‘Kinda Minor’ introduced by a Daft Punk-esque, Chic-like disco-flavoured moment. The perfect blend between tradition and futurism, all coming together under a fierce, cohesive Brit-Funk label.
