We loved ‘Cinematic Vision’ almost instantly. The piece carries the sort of melancholic, brooding chorus that we so much love, all drenched in dreamy and evocative pop-rock allure. We could listen to the single all day, but we should probably try to delve into it a bit more, perhaps identifying the talented creative behind the record. Well, that’s Heddy Edwards. Hailing from the D.C. area, the upcoming songstress has been around for the past few years and has achieved a certain success as well. Her 2022 release ‘cherry picker’ has gained 600k streams to date on Spotify alone. That very same track has a certain dream-pop character to it, a feature that’s partly also found in ‘Cinematic Vision’.
It’s nevertheless less evident, leaving space to pop-leaning melodies with a certain retro flair. Hints of the ‘90s and ‘2000s alternative scene shine through the production, echoing icons such as Sheryl Crow and The Cardigans, to name a few. As we learn more about Edwards’ encompassing artistry, we also discover the heartfelt and painful inspiration that brought ‘Cinematic Vision’ to us. As Edwards explains: “In 2024, I was carrying deep grief while trying to support a loved one with a terminal diagnosis.”
Reacting to difficult circumstsnces was was ultimately what allowed Heddy to express herself through the music medium. She continues: “One rainy day, I felt especially powerless, and my husband and I went to put gas in our truck. He got out to fill up the car, and I sat there, listening to the rain quietly fall. Suddenly, I felt an intense wave of gratitude for life, love, and mundane moments that I couldn’t have felt so strongly without my grief. I opened my notes app and immediately wrote down, ‘on the other side of hell is a heaven so delicate’.”
It’s quite an interesting concept; deep-rooted grief and immeasurable pain as a catalyst for appreciating the fragility of the human experience. The result of such an introspective reflection manifests today through ‘Cinematic Vision’, a wondrous, nuanced episode that opens the floodgates for Edwards’ upcoming EP, set to be released in the spring. Stay tuned!
