heddlu Returns with New Album ‘Tramor’

Exploring heddlu’s social media profiles, we learn two things: the first is that he makes rather good music. The second is that he traversed the entire length of the Danube by kayak, which may very well be irrelevant for this article, but perhaps helps us understand the bold, carefree and wild-driven – perhaps chaotic – personality behind the project. A deeper search reveals what seems to be a prominent pattern in heddlu’s life: great records and wild adventures.

Previously known as a member of the celebrated Welsh outfit Estrons, Rhodri Daniel has now taken matters into his own hands, releasing vibrant, electrifying material with a certain fuzzy and psychedelic charge to it. Such a milestone is even more crucial when considering that Daniel had to battle sizeable hearing loss and a consequent extensive pause from music making. We suspect such a rest and reset might have played a pivotal role in heddlu’s 2022 debut album, ‘Cantref’. Something magical tends to happen every time art is delivered through obstacles and limits.

‘Tramor’ marks the project’s return to the national indie scene, packing eleven gems oscillating through Welsh and English lyricism. The aural references are many, from bright, nostalgic indie-pop tunes to sharp guitar-powered rock and alternative cuts. Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the record, Daniel explains: “A series of intimate and volatile songs, detailing years of loss, estrangement, trauma and hope.”
