Hanorah Unveils Dreamy, Soulful EP ‘Closer Than Hell’

‘Heavenly One’ is a truly stunning effort. Both soulful and dreamy, the record feels elegant, luscious, yet also introspective and with a heightened degree of escapism. We did lose ourselves in it, although for a few seconds only – reality then came calling. A reality that tells us about Hanorah’s striking and boundary-pushing artistry. The track is taken from the project’s latest EP ‘Closer Than Hell’, a wonderful slice of eclectic goodness all wrapped in Hanorah’s transformative, cathartic vocals.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Heavenly One’, the Canadian songstress explains: “This song is a sonic blend of soul and indie/shoegaze. I wrote it in the aftermath of the explosive ending of a relationship due to the other person’s substance use disorder. I found myself terrified by the prospect of love again, and inspired by Aretha Franklin’s plea for peace on ‘Walk Softly’. Making the song itself was so fun, though, that the sad backstory is eclipsed by the joy of the process.”
