Guri Yeller Delve into Shoegaze Territories with ‘Black Shoes | Sister Misery’

Before we dive into the specifics behind Guri Yeller’s project, we would just like to point out that you don’t necessarily need to rationalise what you are listening to. Of course, there’s a certain benefit in knowing who Yeller are and where they are coming from; yet, the aural magic behind ‘Black Shoes | Sister Misery’ is so strong that it effectively trumps any other concerns. Hear us out: this is a record you can lose yourself in. It’s a record that doesn’t demand anything in particular, just your undivided attention and the willingness to let go of your surroundings.

If you do that, Yeller will take you into a cathartic, expansive listening place, one that’s drenched in hazy guitar tones and dreamy vocals. ‘Sister Misery’ is the perfect example of that, thanks to its noisy distortions and relentless vocal melodies, all hidden behind intense textures and a sense of liminality. It’s escapism at its best, a killer blend of shoegaze, dream-pop and lo-fi matter that’s hard to resist.

‘Black Shoes’ follows the same sonic recipe, just with a faster tempo and a more intense outlook. What more could you wish for?! Guri Yeller does a great job with such a potent double-single. Hailing from Greater Manchester, the gifted duo have recently focused on shoegaze-esque material, and honestly, it’s paying off; we hope they’ll stick with it. That said, they are known for being quite eclectic, so who knows where they’ll be going next?
