Written and produced with her brother, Joe Hamberger (Arthur Hill, Karis Taylor), the song sees the sibling duo teaming up with Seegz (Fran Lusty, Maya Lane) to bring the track to life. Inspired by Pop Country artists like Shania Twain and Ella Langley, ‘Cowboy’ is a breakup anthem you can dance to, cry to and feel empowered.
Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the record, Gretchin explains, “I often write songs when I feel like I didn’t get to say everything I wanted to say in a situation. It’s my version of replaying an argument when you’re in the shower and delivering that cutting line you wished you’d said in the moment. ‘Cowboy’ is that for me. It’s a bit sad, but it’s mostly just fun; it’s the kind of song I always want to listen to when someone has broken my heart or bruised my ego. A song where you get to have the last word and say ‘hey look at me now, I’m doing just fine’.”
