The keen reader might remember a feature we published a few months ago, celebrating Greta Isaac’s ‘Productive Pain’ EP as “intricate and sophisticated as it is evocative and cathartic”. Hailing from Wales, the talented songstress and holistic creative enjoys a rather eclectic range of musical endeavours; from the atmospheric alt-folk we just mentioned, to her militance in the acclaimed outfit FIZZ, alongside Martin Luke Brown, dodie and Orla Gartland.
Yet, we feel as though DOLLY ZOOM might be one of her most genius moves. Isaac’s latest alter ego, the project sees her embracing a bold, loud and fierce pop aesthetic, an ethos that solidifies in ‘SOFT SCOOP TALKING DOG’. It’s an absolute banger of a cut, a dance-powered anthem with playful, hypnotising vocals that feel fiery and sultry.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the DOLLY ZOOM character, Isaac explains: “a character of extremes. She is the mania that runs beneath a rationalised exterior; the vision you might have of screaming at someone you smile politely to instead, the thought you have of jumping off a high building but never doing it, the disturbed, hyper, playful, imaginative parts of us we subdue. DOLLY ZOOM is a character born out of restriction and ordinariness, a means of unleashing the messy parts of us that society wants us to conform to”.
