Hailing from the North Coast of Ireland, gregory doone could be described as a hidden gem. We did not expect to find his EP so endearing and powerful. Yet, just by using guitar and vocals, he’s able to create something incredibly beautiful. ‘Threshold’ is doone’s debut effort, out now, fronted by its lead single ‘Turning Wheel’. In a way, this is quite refreshing and healing, especially amidst the increasing chaos of our reality.
As we approach the EP, its wholesome character is instantly obvious. Guided by doone’s profound and malleable vocals, ‘Threshold’ slowly shifts into an overwhelming aural embrace with minimalist features. A gently plucked guitar supports gregory’s soft lyrical delivery, using space and melodies for heightened intimacy. Drawing inspiration from a lifetime of learned wisdom, doone explores the meaningful moments of life with unmatched elegance.
Delving deeper into the meaningful ethos that propels the record, we are told: “The EP is a cycle of songs about what happens at the borders between presence and absence. It moves from the fleeting intimacy of watching a child grow, through the cyclical rhythms of land and season, to abandoned homes being reclaimed by nature, and finally to the body’s return to the earth.” We appreciate such lyrical relatability and tender imagery.
