Gerr Walsh Unveils Weightless, Poignant Jewel ‘Silverfish’

Introduced by a heartwarming acoustic guitar and grounded, gentle drums, ‘Silverfish’ is a piece steeped in simplicity and hazy energy, a gentle, elegant slice of hope and loving nostalgia framed into a wonderful indie folk livery. Penned by Irish singer-songwriter Gerr Walsh, ‘Silverfish’ is the kind of record one could define as cinematic, as it creates a rather intense mood, in this case aiding escapism, aka taking listeners into faraway lands, figuratively speaking.

For us at Mesmerized, that meant getting stuck in countless memories, fragments of lost romance, and heartfelt reflections. Walsh’s nuanced, poised vocals are the perfect match for such a vibrant record, never overpowering the instrumental despite matching its mood. Gearing up for an album to be released early next year, Gerr has seemingly struck sonic gold, as ‘Silverfish’ clearly showcases.

Interestingly, in the song, Walsh is actually referring to the “elusive nature of creative inspiration”, although listeners are certainly free to conceptualise their own interpretation, as the lyrics are rather open-ended. ‘Silverfish’ features Keith Duffy on bass, Adam Marcello on drums, Max Greenwood on piano, and Naimee Coleman on backing vocals. Overall, we are pleasantly surprised by Gerr’s artistic output; it’s effortless, even weightless. It’s so vivid and poignant. More of this, please.
