What happens when two childhood friends reconnect over shared musical interests? Full Gain happens. Hailing from France, the project sees Matt (MPC60, synthesisers) and Romain (vocals, guitar) teaming up on a brand new eponymous EP, a release that serves as a hard-hitting debut effort and showcases the project’s vast potential for the future.
We approach ‘Full Gain’ with an open mind, and what we find is a ton of different influences and an organic, yet electrifying blend of acoustic and electronic elements. ‘Drive’ introduces the EP with a certain gloominess and sharp industrial distortions, yet its main beat shares an old-school hip-hop flavour. ‘Drop Dead’ shifts the script in favour of evocative melodies and an alt-pop sheen. Romain’s vocals remain as fierce as they were, crowning what’s obviously an anthemic and catchy piece. ‘Expression’ embraces the project’s more reflective side, showcasing once again another personality of the French duo.
Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels their music, Full Gain explain: “The unique aspect of our recording process was complete creative freedom. We never restricted ourselves to any artistic direction, allowing each song to develop organically. The same spirit of freedom expressed in our lyrics shaped our production choices, with every musical decision driven by emotion, instinct, and a genuine passion for creating music.” We appreciate their willingness to boldly explore wherever their art might take them. We need more acts like them in the industry.
