The keen reader might remember British indie outfit Freight; they appeared on our pages back in June with their debut single ‘Me’, a record we praised as “charming and energetic, yet maintaining a rather elegant flair”. That seems to be a foundational quality for the Warrington-based group; they do enjoy a good guitar riff, yet one that never overpowers the track, embracing soft and gentle distortions alongside roaring drum grooves.
‘The Only Thing I Know’ is the perfect evidence of that. Marking Freight’s sophomore release, the track picks up where ‘Me’ left off, indulging in an indie-rock formula that’s even brighter and playful. Vocals are charming and uplifting, guiding listeners into a relatable and witty aural experience, one that’s familiar yet never obvious. The chorus is extremely catchy on the ears, a feature that we suspect will connect with a wide audience out there.
Speaking about the new single, frontman Luka Gunes explains: “‘The Only Thing I Know’ is my favourite song to play live as I teach the crowd the words of the chorus and get them to sing along, which is always amazing to see and hear. It’s a song we love to play live, and it has a real sing-along feel to it”. The song also anticipated Freight’s upcoming EP ‘Kaleidoscope’, expected on October 8th.
