It’s been a rather productive year for Brighton-based creative Fierce Friend. Known by day as songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alan Grice, the talented artist has unveiled a bunch of eclectic singles that will all converge into a forthcoming album, ‘Blood Red Hills & The Uncanny Valley’, expected later this year. For now, ‘Make Me Forget You’ is the track that continues pushing forward, a single that scrambles the project’s sonic picture once again.
Leaving behind the dreamy and euphoric tropes of ‘Sing All Night’, or the slick and shiny indie territories of ‘Blood Red Hills’, ‘Make Me Forget You’ finds a fitting refuge in a heavily guitar-coded arrangement, embracing pop-rock with raw fierceness and unapologetic sentiment. It’s a fast-moving, intense offering, one that illustrates the wide musical boundaries enjoyed by Grice.
As its title implies, ‘Make Me Forget You’ is the sort of track that’s not afraid to delve into rebellious introspection, briefly touching on melancholic themes, here offered as a short, uplifting pill of rage-filled charisma. As we are told: “It moves through anger, regret and lingering affection in quick, vivid scenes. It is a song about wanting to erase someone while clearly not being able to, listing the damage done while still reaching back for what has been lost.” We suspect many will relate to such malleable lyricism… It’s not the time for pity. It’s time for pride and boldness.
