A quick glance at Evelia’s Spotify bio reveals she’s “writing as I go, learning as I grow”. We love that: for the American songstress, music is direct self-expression, a way to decode the vivid reality she’s been experiencing as a young adult. ‘On Your Roof’ is the strongest evidence of that. Evelia’s latest EP, the record feels vibrant and fierce, yet at times poignant and emotional. It’s a snapshot of daily life and failed relationships, now effectively a nostalgic look at the talented artist’s recent years.
As she eloquently explains: “I wrote this EP in the aftermath of my first real breakup when I found myself begging for something across these tracks. In my early twenties, I navigated what I wouldn’t stand for in a relationship and how I let that define me. These songs were penned alone in my bedroom and later brought to a band in Athens that helped shape the sonic threads, taking the music from acoustic ballads to polished, indie rock songs.”
From a sonic standpoint, ‘On Your Roof’ is flawless. Steeped in indie pop and rock flair, the record feels sharp and rowdy, with a great deal of guitar euphoria happily co-existing with Evelia’s vibrant, honest vocals. Collecting past singles and the title track, the EP is intriguing and captivating. We suspect the Atlanta-based artist might be ready for bigger stages…
