If you have been following us for a while, you’ll know we are eager to dive into soundscapes and leftfield electronica, we find them to be a rather transformative listening experience, often a learning sonic journey. Perhaps we are just ecstatic about a flow of frequencies delving deep into our deepest consciousness, causing a soul-searching motion that ends up in poignancy and resilience. Or, simply, we are attracted to that hypnotising effect that certain types of music can strongly trigger. Anyway, all of that is the reason why we connected so quickly to Eric Angelo Bessel’s latest effort, ‘Kindly Rewind’.
Emerging from Portland, Bessel has long been a champion of artistic research, both as a music being and a visual arts wizard. It makes sense to see him jump into such abstract matter, giving the potential for a visual counterpart. ‘Kindly Rewind’ is built over long, modulating sounds, steady frequencies drenched in spacious environments and never-ending feedback.
‘Kindly Rewind’ anticipates a forthcoming album, ‘Visitation’, expected later this year. Speaking about the release, Bessel explains: “Kindly Rewind undulates with the hazy granular flutter of an old tape machine, dotted with sonar beacons, reversed splices, and echoes of an overdubbed orchestral choir.”
