Emma Miller Returns with Stunning Album ‘I Want to Be the Anchor’

Emma Miller has developed an immersive and evocative folk-leaning universe, a personal musical space that feels cinematic and hypnotic, but also raw and authentic.

This is not our first encounter with Emma Miller. Back in 2024, we proudly celebrated the Scottish songstress as enjoying “a knack for poignant, expansive pieces, drenched in a myriad of textures and intimate instrumentations.” We stand by our words: Miller has developed an immersive and evocative folk-leaning universe, a personal musical space that feels cinematic and hypnotic, but also raw and authentic.

‘I Want to Be the Anchor’ is the perfect evidence of that, an immersive and emotional album that’s detailed and tender, exchanging both melancholia and hope with electrifying restraint. Miller’s vocals resonate in all of their luscious and precise allure, capturing the listener’s attention from the first note. Notably, only half of the album has been released on streaming services, with its complete version exclusively available for purchase on Miller’s website

Delving deeper into the creative process that resulted in such a meaningful and nuanced album, Miller explains: “Producer Nick Bullock understood exactly what I was trying to make – something rooted and emotional, with no production tricks to hide behind. I wanted the whole record to showcase the lyrics and melodies and my voice, above anything else, allowing listeners to enter the songs just as I had done when they were first written. Very much up close and personal.”
