Eliza Marshall Shares Eclectic, Hypnotising EP ‘New Birth’

Eliza Marshall is renowned for being a top-level flautist, an in-demand session player and composer with a pretty holistic view over music in general. Apart from being a gun for hire and a wonderful instrumentalist, Marshall is also a deeply creative being, a side of her that perhaps doesn’t get showcased as much as it should. Well, that stops now, with ‘New Birth’ EP offering an eclectic and vibrant listening experience.

Steeped in a variety of influences, the record finds its unmistakable and unique character in a stream of world music, with African percussions laid alongside Asian-flavoured flute melodies, electronic textures and field recordings. What more could you wish for? While Marshall’s classical training provides a foundational cornerstone for the EP’s rich aural livery, Eliza’s kaleidoscopic look over contemporary culture greatly informs the final output, making for a boundary-pushing, visionary record that’s interesting and varied.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the EP, Marshall explains: “‘New Birth’ is about new beginnings, new life, new ideas. It looks to this time, 2025, in the life of our planet; Our Times, our era, the way we connect and interact, and who we share our lifetimes with. In Spring, I imagine new life beneath the soil, roots quietly intertwining and nurturing one another, while above, new shoots grow. What is the first light for a plant or a child? A beautiful, yet daunting, world to behold?”
