Boasting what we can only describe as ‘melancholic euphoria’, Electron provides an unapologetic, hard-hitting listening experience, the kind of all-out guitar-powered charge that will appeal to the most extreme listeners out there. Yet, even among such heavy distortion and dystopian, eerie melodies, one can find a firm melodic thread and rather meaningful lyricism. In fact, that’s what we appreciate the most about the London-based outfit: their not-so-hidden dualism.
On one hand, you’ve got your fierce and rowdy metalcore goodness, all screamy and fuzzy, certainly not for everyone. On the other hand, there are sections where Electron showcase their unrestrained emotional prowess, although those moments are admittedly scarce and ephemeral. We love that ambiguity, with the talented band alternating between boundless aural violence and poised vulnerability. What more could you wish for? Any hardcore and post-metal fan out there will certainly love ‘Lie to Me’, the group’s latest single.
The track confirms everything we have written about Electron so far. Speaking about the heartfelt and raw lyricism in it, the band explain: “It captures the feeling of drowning in your own thoughts while searching for freedom.” For anyone in the UK, Electron are playing a bunch of shows in November and December, including Manchester Gullivers (Nov 8), Cardiff’s Fuel Rock Club (Dec 7, Thank You Ozzy Vol 1 Festival), and supporting Defences on December 5th (Downstairs at The Dome).
