The keen reader might remember Berlin-based, Norwegian creative EERA. We featured her previous single ‘I’ll stop when I’m done’ earlier this summer, and it’s safe to say we were greatly impressed with it, both from an aural and lyrical perspective. On a mission to release her Chris Taylor-produced (Grizzly Bear) forthcoming album, EERA has recently unveiled another crucial piece of the puzzle, ‘Honey, do you see me?’.
There are a multitude of layers to the upcoming record, yet the most prominent is its research-led character, which makes it almost a concept album. You see, EERA writes music with purpose, and in this case, every track and song is part of a wider theme: the iconic starlets of Hollywood’s Golden Era and the character they portrayed on the big screen, from Shirley Maclaine in ‘The Apartment’ to Marilyn Monroe in ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’.

In fact, ‘Honey, do you see me?’ was inspired by ‘The Apartment’, as EERA explains: “I loved the dialogue in the movie, which inspired me to write the lyrics. I was fascinated by the fact that the main character (an intelligent and beautiful woman) is madly in love with a man who has a wife and is the boss of a big company. It affected her self-confidence with this man playing with her feelings, promising her the ‘world’, etc.
From a sonic standpoint, ‘Honey, do you see me?’ is rather weightless and incredibly well-produced. Steeped in wholesome indie pop and dreamy textures, the piece is the perfect backdrop to EERA’s nuanced, cathartic vocals. For anyone keen, the rising artist is going to be playing a bunch of dates in London and Berlin soon:
