Behind its quirky, playful dream-pop faćade, ‘I’ll stop when I’m done’ hides a great deal of introspection and lyrical research, a quality that well fits the nuanced artistry championed by Berlin-based creative EERA. The track anticipates the project’s upcoming album, increasing its momentum and cultural relevance. In fact, EERA has already been noticed by a long list of industry figures, including Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 6 Music; not a surprise, given the quality and depth of the Norwegian artist.
Known as Anna Lena Kristen by day, the talented songstress flourishes on synth-powered, hazy sound design and catchy, cathartic vocals, the perfect match for EERA’s eclectic pool of influences, going from the likes of PJ Harvey to Broadcast’s psychedelic retro goodness. In particular, the new album is informed by “the Marilyn Monroe quote: ‘I don’t stop when I’m tired, I only stop when I’m done” with the song delving deep into the psyche of the actress.”
Expanding the overarching lyrical premise, EERA continues: “I wanted to write a song from her perspective. That she wants to be in the spotlight, but that she has to prove herself over and over to everyone around her. I wanted to focus on her vulnerability as well by adding the sentence ‘I just want to find someone to love’ (which is also one of her quotes). I feel that this is all she wanted deep down (beyond success). She wanted someone to love her no matter what. Someone who will always be by her side.”
