If there’s one thing we can be sure of, is that an Eddy Puyol record is bound to make us move. The keen reader might remember the Floridian creative from a past feature we did about ‘Like a Cadillac’, a luscious and old-school hip-hop piece with a high degree of fierceness. Puyol has recently returned with another vibrant banger, ‘Good Time’. Only, he’s now looking towards funk, birthing an uplifting, dancy gem tinged in nostalgic tones and euphoric vocals. There’s also a touch of disco – simply, it’s the right thing to do.
Such a catchy, carefree production flourishes over wholesome drum beats and synth elements, a formula that’s been sampled by Puyol’s former catalogue – ‘Beautiful / Be With You’, originally released by the artist’s former musical persona, Rawsrvnt. Such a stunning source material is here put to better use, with Eddy recording playful, laid-back vocals that instantly shout ‘summer’ and ‘party’.
Lyrically, ‘Good Time’ seeks to inspire listeners to share moments of joy and celebration with their families, making the most of the short time we have been given on this planet. As Puyol explains: “Toast to the ones who are gone and turn up the heat, because with family by your side, it’s always the right time to have a good time.” The single also features a wonderful music video, directed by frequent collaborator Will Thomas.
