The keen reader might recall DrewJam from a feature we published earlier this year, celebrating ‘Friends with a Fool’ as being “vivid, vibrant and rather cathartic”. We stand by our words; the record was quite relatable and meaningful, fully showcasing the observant songwriting flair enjoyed by the English troubadour. Today, the Hertfordshire-based creative returns with his latest effort, another evocative piece steeped in purpose and introspection, ‘Holding Fast’.
Focused on loss and resilience, the single could be seen as a follow-up to ‘Friends with a Fool’; both are quite personal and could be the consequence of each other. First, you lose a friend, then you process the subsequent loss. Whichever way you look at it, there’s no doubt around DrewJam’s cathartic flair. Boasting a raw, brooding vocal tone, he’s able to build an aural landscape that’s incredibly relatable and heartwarming, and we suspect a lot of people out there will connect to it.
Delving deeper in ‘Holding Fast’, DrewJam explains: “‘Holding Fast’ is about those moments when the world feels unstable and impossible to navigate; when faced with loss, you have to anchor yourself in something real—even if that something is just a feeling or a fleeting memory. It’s quiet, but it’s persistent and about not letting go.” There’s an EP in the works; stick around.
