Dive into Christian Wethered Mellow Yet Haunting New Record

We can’t believe we are discovering Christian Wethered only now. We are mesmerized and seduced by his artistic offering, and we are confident you’ll be too. The Irish talent’s latest single – ‘Wait’ –  is as special as they come: deep, reminiscent vocals slowly deliver short verses, with a heartwrenching poignant attitude. It is all then framed into a soothing yet haunting bed of sonic goodness. Mellow guitar arpeggios join a groovy yet intimate drum beat, all blended together by strings-like soundscapes.

It is a really good track. Many will say it’s not a surprise… after all, Wethered has been championed by the likes of RTE 1, which was particularly keen on his latest album ‘Mon Petit Jardin’. It’s also true that the project gained prestigious live slots around the country. Furthermore, Christian has been awarded the 2021 Melita Huma Prize for his book of poetry.

On this premise, it is completely understandable to expect a great record from the Dublin resident. ‘Wait’ is everything we could have wished for: taking a more pensive and reflective stance on his signature songwriting style, the record was namely inspired by the eerie, loose style of Thom Yorke and PJ Harvey. It’s easy to see the resemblance, but it must be said that Wethered’s slightly dark and deep vocals give the song a quirky, peculiar identity, making it the work of a uniquely talented artist.
