There’s an incredible story behind ‘The Agoraphobia Files’, a story of resilience, pain, and survival. The album itself is a good record, steeped in radio-ready indie rock and mainstream melodism. It features a very international allure, with thirteen tracks encompassing a wide variety of lyrical subjects, but most importantly, being personal, vulnerable self-expression coming from Purbeck Temple.
Known by day as Paul, Purbeck Temple suffers from agoraphobia, leaving him unable to go outside. That might have something to do with the terrible aggression he was a victim of back in 2009. Left for dead, Paul was then able to do a somewhat miraculous recovery, although it didn’t come without issues. As he explains: “Every bone in my face was broken, and I contracted MRSA in my stomach and had double pneumonia”.
Delving deeper into his songwriting, Paul shares: “The song I first wrote coming out of the hospital was ‘No Hard Feelings’, it’s the second track on the album. A bit of sarcasm, but writing these songs helped me concentrate on things other than my children not recognising me.” A unique story for a good record, which you should support.
