Discover Sloppy Joe’s Euphoric Rock’n’Roll in ‘Live in Hamburg (Vol.1)’

It’s been a while since we received a live album. Actually recorded from a gig. It’s quite refreshing, to hear the audience roar and surge in peaks of euphoria, a sentiment we have definitely missed for the past few years. German band Sloppy Joe’s does exactly that, sharing a very compelling record titled ‘Live in Hamburg (Vol. 1)’. Before you even ask, the sound quality is pristine, which is surprising, it does sound like a studio album at times. Kudos to the band for this!

Including six live recordings, ‘Live in Hamburg (Vol. 1)’ showcases all of the punch and energy Sloppy Joe’s has to offer. There’s a certain unfiltered and raw quality in their music, as if they were authentically pursuing the best rock’n’roll available. Stylistically, the group oscillates between metal-flavoured pieces, such as ‘Lonesome No.1’, to more mellow and steady tracks, the likes of ‘Devil’s Music’ and ‘Make Some Noise’.

Contrary to what one might think, everything you’ll hear in the record comes from pre-pandemic gigs, opening the doors for nostalgia and a certain curiosity. Specifically, Sloppy Joe’s selected their best performances from two gigs, one at Knust in 2016 and the other one at Indra Musikclub in 2019. If gritty guitars are your bread and butter, give the album a listen, you won’t regret it!
