Discover Dead Feather’s Meaningful Artistic Ethos in ‘Red Poem’

The keen reader will certainly remember American creative Dead Feather. Featuring an interview with him a few weeks back, we proudly declared the project “active within the visual and aural mediums, packing his work with a keen community-driven ethos”. We stand behind our words, first and foremost because of Dead Feather’s dedication to his cause. You see, boasting Native American roots, the talented artist focuses on the subject of assimilation and the civilisation process concerning the North American Indians, in particular the MvskokeCreek (to which he belongs).

‘Red Poem’ is taken from Dead Feather’s debut album ‘Cate Heleswv (Red Medicine), Vol. 1’, a record released earlier this summer. In it, the American artist teams up with Adam Stanley and Isaac Nelson of Stanley Hotel, helping the cause by delivering a gloomy and eclectic blues-rock-oriented tracklist. Being Deaf, Dead Feather experiences music in a rather unconventional way, a feature that doesn’t stop him from lending ‘Red Poem’ his blessed and purposeful spoken words.

Delving deeper into the song, Dead Feather explains: “It stands out for its focus on modern Native American-themed subject matter. It’s an honest look at the world through the experiences of an uneducated, deaf Native American born into the lower rungs of the social hierarchy.”
