Dirty Power gets Intimate and Evocative on Latest EP ‘Gravitas’

International rock trio Dirty Power recently unleashed their brand new EP in the form of ‘Gravitas’, an intimate five-track offering that was recorded live in a castle in Baltimore, Ireland. Featuring three original tunes and two cover songs, ‘Gravitas’ sees the band return to their personal, cultural, and musical roots. Stripped-back and evocative, the EP is twenty-five minutes of pure sonic bliss and emotional intensity.

‘I Did My Time’ gets things up and running and sets the tone perfectly. Dark and brooding, the track builds itself up slowly with an edgy acoustic guitar and sparse yet intense drum work. Superb! ‘Said And Done’ then makes its appearance, and the listener is now fully immersed in the band’s intricate soundscape. The guitar playing is astounding, and it’s now clearly evident that we’re dealing with three immensely talented musicians.

‘Farewell’ serves as the EP’s third song before the two cover tracks round off ‘Gravitas’. Both covers are of Irish origin, and the act’s tribute to Rory Gallagher’s ‘A Million Miles Away’ is done with grace, respect, and heart. The same must be said for their version of the traditional folk tune ‘The Foggy Dew’, as they breathe new life into a cherished piece of Irish musical history. What a band! And what an EP!
