David Goundry Delves Into Nostalgic Psychedelia with ‘Lucy (2026 Remix)’

‘Lucy’ has now been given a true psychedelic sheen, being transformed into a triumphant and anthemic piece, an expansive offering drenched in cinematic energy and unmatched elegance.

Listening to ‘Lucy’ feels like stepping back in time: entering the golden age of British rock’n’roll, travelling on a double-decker Routemaster bus, meeting a bunch of hyped-up fans outside one’s hotel. Memories of a roaring West London come to mind, remnants of a time when bands were all the rage, and guitar-driven music was dominating the airwaves. Well, ‘Lucy’ fits such an ethos rather perfectly, showcasing the timeless allure shared by David Goundry. Hailing from London himself, Goundry makes it a personal mission to “recreate a warm, retro analogue sound that also has a modern edge”.

Mission accomplished, we’d dare say. Taken from David’s 2024 album ‘Glazbury Road’, the single is given a more psychedelic sheen, here labelled as ‘Remix 2026’. As such, ‘Lucy’ has now transformed into a slightly euphoric, anthemic piece, an expansive and partly orchestral offering drenched in cinematic energy and unmatched elegance. Alongside Goundry’s malleable vocals and imaginative songwriting, we find backing vocalist Joanna Griggs, lending the record a heightened dreamy quality. That’s perhaps what gives it a real ‘Beatle-esque quality.

Veteran producer Nick Sykes (former collaborator of Average White Band and Go West, among others) brings all of his extensive experience, all from the familiar settings of London’s Rooster studio. Delving deeper into the track, Goundry explains: “Somewhat of a departure from my normal stuff, and the beginnings of a more Beatlesy/70s rock analogue sound.”
