Let’s be honest: ‘The Perfect Circle’ is a phenomenal piece, especially in its latest live rendition. Incredibly liminal and cathartic, such a poignant and evocative composition moves slowly and with purpose, drawing listeners in thanks to its meaningful, introspective lyricism and ever-evolving atmospheres. It’s also a special track: featuring Max ZT’s Grammy-nominated dulcimer tones, ‘The Perfect Circle’ showcases once again Dan Whitehouse’s stunningly powerful artistry and glimmering vocals.
Originally contained in Whitehouse’s 2023 album ‘Ten Steps’, the piece has been recently chosen for a recorded live performance at Real World Studios (an iconic spot owned by Peter Gabriel). Compared to the studio version, the new live take boasts a more minimalistic outlook, with Dan and Max playfully delving into pauses, silences and long soundscapes. Furthermore, the track is enriched by Katie Whitehouse’s spoken words, narrating a wonderful poem that creates a magical, angelic vibe.
As Dan explains, “This song is based on a poem by my friend Katie Whitehouse (no relation). I first read her poem, it was a breath of fresh air – like pulling the curtains wide on a glorious morning and letting the light flood in. I felt compelled to sing.” For any keen fans out there, the British creative is setting out on his ‘Ten Steps tour next month, from the 19th to the 29th of June.
