The keen reader might remember German creative DAN from an article we published earlier this year, praising ‘Light Up The Light’ as a “bright and evocative single showcasing all of the mainstream prowess the project has to offer.” Since then, the Stuttgart-based artist has been hard at work, writing and producing like-minded material featuring contemporary sheen and catchy lyricism. ‘Firestarter’ is the perfect evidence of that. Marking DAN’s latest effort, the single carries the project’s usual electro-pop allure, yet it moves into a more evocative and heartfelt direction, something that’s also evidence of the German musician’s observant character.
You see, DAN is quite aware of the dark period the world is enduring at the moment. That’s why he strived to pen a song that would offer listeners a warm, hopeful message. As he explains, “I need people around me who are positive. Positive music. And what I need most right now is a ‘firestarter.‘ Someone who rekindles my fire and helps me not to lose heart, to stay positive, and to keep my chin up.” Mission achieved: ‘Firestarter’ feels tender yet urgent, a meaningful lyrical message layered over hypnotic, dreamy production.
Bathing in crepuscular electro-pop, the record appears to enjoy a great deal of synthpop and synthwave influences. The production always tread carefully, conscious of its own gentle, cathartic aura. Crowning it all, we find dynamic and expressive female vocals, fully developing the songwriting vision behind the tune. Overall, we are impressed with DAN once again, and we are confident that ‘Firestarter’ will resonate with a wide audience.
