‘DAHMS4U’ is not your average rap EP. In fact, it’s the exact opposite: a slice of futuristic hip-hop wrapped into EDM production and digital tones. In a way, listening to it can be described as an intense fever dream, with dahms‘ enticing and hypnotic vocal flow crowning the tracks in alternative fashion. Hailing from Pittsburgh, PA, the visionary creative has been largely inspired by Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreak and Pierre Bourne’s The Life of Pierre series, among others.
Highly introspective and personal, ‘DAHMS4U’ draws inspiration from its author’s personal dealings, with dahms dissecting the ins and outs of the human experience, perhaps hoping to inspire any like-minded listeners, or using his own life and the record as a cathartic outlet. The resulting musical matter is vivid, honest and unconventional, with the EP embarking on a curious path among leftfield influences and more mainstream hip-hop formulas. It’s a truly eclectic offering.
Delving deeper into the meaningful outlook that guides the record, we are told: “The EP revolves around the idea of going ‘UP’, a recurring motif that represents personal elevation, growth as a lover, and becoming a more meaningful contributor to society.” In that sense, ‘DAHMS4U’ acts as a broader statement, both on a personal and artistic level, showcasing the American rapper’s bold commitment to his craft.
