Cries of Redemption Team Up with Martina Questa on ‘What Lies Beneath’

Ed Silva’s twitchy, doom-esque guitar riffs perfectly match Martina Questa’s luscious vocals. Meet ‘What Lies Beneath’.

Fans of gothic, melancholic metal rejoice! Cries of Redemption is back with yet another triumphant, anthemic cut, this time sung by Argentinian metal royalty Martina Questa: ‘What Lies Beneath’. In it, we find exactly what one would expect from guitarist Ed Silva’s hard-hitting artistry, here manifesting in a flurry of sumptuous, elegant melodies and twitchy, doom-esque guitar riffs. Crowning it all, we find Questa’s luscious vocals, here delivered with heightened pathos and gravitas.

What more could you wish for? ‘What Lies Beneath’ checks all the boxes of a gothic metal record, building a gloomy, expansive aural outlook that’s truly hypnotic and sombre. Originally released in Cries of Redemption’s 2025 EP ‘A Collection of Things To Come’, the song has now found a new lease of life, continuing Silva’s tradition of pairing guitar-coded darkness with angelic female vocals. In that sense, Martina brings a breath of fresh air to the whole project, as she’s already made a name for herself in the scene. This is a confirmation of Ed Silva’s hard work so far.

Delving deeper into the rebellious and alternative ethos that propels Cries of Redemption, we are told: “It’s cut from the same cloth as the people who listen, the castaways, the misfits, and the bruised and battered who find a home in these frequencies. In COR, there is no room for idolatry; this is a project for communion, not adoration.” There’s much more to come from Cries of Redemption; look out for it!
