Crescent Bring Back the 70s with Psychedelic Double Single ‘Milogather Parts 1 & 2’

Embracing 70s-coded psychedelia, slow-tempo rock’n’roll, and blues grit, Crescent breaks with modernity by resurrecting a softer, more hypnotic brand of rock’n’roll allure.

We appreciate the nostalgic ethos behind Crescent. Emerging out of Hartlepool, the talented band has embraced a rather unique blend of 70s-coded psychedelia, slow-tempo rock’n’roll, and blues grit, a timeless aural formula that never feels derivative. Instead, it’s refreshing and vibrant, reminding us of something we had temporarily lost, but that we luckily got back. As we are told, Crescent seeks to rebel against the modern indie trends, where guitar riffs are chaotic, fast-flowing and rather cold.

The project opens the floodgates for a more romantic take on guitar-based music, a hypnotic and moon-lit allure that will appeal to a wide group of listeners out there. Enough abstractions; Crescent have provided us with the evidence we need to decode their artistry, ‘Milogather Part 1’ and ‘Milogather Part 2’. Marking Crescent’s debut effort, the double single is out now via Shy Bairn. The tracks are exactly what we would expect from a band whose overall imagery evokes 70s fashion and tender nostalgia. It is indeed psychedelia, only drenched in digestible melodies and laidback energy.

‘Milogather’ 1&2 sees Crescent’s vocalists, Caleb Hay and Millie Jones, as the primary songwriters, both serving a meaningful take on emotional intimacy, weaving in and out of their real-life relationship. As they explain: “The releases function as two perspectives on intimacy, imbalance and connection, simple on the surface, but emotionally unresolved underneath.” Jake Beddow and Christian Tunney complete the lineup on bass and drums, respectively.
