One thing we appreciate about Conor Maradona is his ability not to take himself too seriously, a feature that’s quickly spotted by reading through his biography and press assets. In fact, if one were to visit his Instagram profile, they’d be welcomed by a rather eclectic disclaimer: ‘Music, Comedy, Philosophy’. He’s an artist, alright! Before we dive into his latest release, it might be worth pointing out Conor’s Podcast, aptly titled ‘The Conor Maradona Podcast’: it will give you proper insights into the colourful and funny mind of the Welsh troubadour.
From a music standpoint, Maradona has been busy ramping up the release campaign for his upcoming album ‘An Apology Letter To All My Ex-Girlfriends’, from which ‘SNOWBALL’ is taken. Unveiled in early March, the single showcases the project’s nuanced and wholesome rock’n’roll ethos, a music persona that oscillates between tradition and modernity, always referring back to the greats. This is serious, by the way; going beyond the playfulness of Conor’s lyricism, one must recognise how talented he is at performing and writing songs.
‘SNOWBALL’ feels expansive and uplifting, all the while maintaining a rather laidback and acoustic fervour, at least before the record’s outro. Delving deeper into the piece, Maradona explains: “The music is catchy, slightly cynical pop with a bit of attitude; think Noel Gallagher, but without the money, fame, or legal issues.” We feel it’s just a matter of time till the world wakes up to Conor Maradona, and he’s able to tend to his own legal problems.
