The keen reader will gladly remember British creative Common Saints. Writing about ‘Firebird’ earlier this year, we proudly declared it “steeped in heartwarming and shimmering tones, uplifting drum grooves and saturated guitars”. In other words, Common Saint’s’ modus operandi is highly hypnotising and cathartic, with warmth instrumental elements building an aural fever dream. It’s a space where we are happy to lose ourselves, a space that allows us to adventure into ambitious introspection.
‘Equinox’ confirms everything mentioned above, widening the pool of sonic goodness offered by the project. Common Saints’ new EP, ‘Equinox’, takes the listeners through a heightened level of eclecticism. Take ‘Honey’, with its bluesy, soulful influences. Or the title track, with a distinct M83 flavouring that’s cinematic and poignant. ‘Electricity’ and ‘Supernova’ take the record to a close with masterful flair, with the latter taking us on an ever-evolving instrumental journey.
Guided by the relentless creative vision of Charlie J Perry, the project appears to have found its best-ever form, and we are frankly impressed by the EP. Speaking about the inspiration behind it, Common Saints explain: “Equinox represents a meeting of the dark and the light—when the sun and the moon both appear in the sky. It’s a reflection of a period in my life that’s been both tragic and transformative—the loss of my father, and the birth of the Common Saints live show. This EP marks growth, transition, and a turning point for me—and, I hope, for anyone listening.”
