This one is for all the retro heads out there. ‘Only Answer’ delves deeper into nostalgic, analogue-laden synths and warm, groovy beats, carving out a unique aural path that ties together italo-disco, synth-pop, disco, and disco-funk. It partly reminds us of the kind of obscure and dark – yet luscious and sultry – material that we would often hear from specialised labels such as Italians Do It Better. Only, Colour Of The Sky appears to favour wide, gritty synths and orchestral samples.
Hailing from Prague, the Czech producer and musician does a great job on the record. ‘Only Answer’ is divided into two major sections. First, you’ve got your haunting, intense sonic goodness, which builds anticipation and suspense. Not long after, ‘Only Answer’ shifts into full disco mode, with one of the grooviest basslines we have heard recently, plus luscious synths and string stabs. What more could you wish for? Completely instrumental, the piece could very well provide a fitting soundtrack to a like-minded visual work or short film.
Uncovering the creative process behind the track, Colour Of The Sky explains: “It was interesting because I did everything in 3 days, even the mixing. Which is normally not the case, but for some reason, it came out quickly. From the production side, I was trying to combine a dark, dramatic electronic sound and then, in the middle of the track, switch to a 70’s disco track with a groovy bassline.”
