Col Gerrard Returns with Wholesome, Poignant Jewel ‘The Way I Feel’

A deeply poignant and evocative piece, ‘The Way I Feel’ moves slowly but with purpose, revealing a softly-performed, hazy instrumental, playfully contrasting with Col Gerrard’s hard-hitting lyricism. Hailing from London, the talented singer and songwriter holds a stunningly smokey, full-bodied vocal tone as his biggest asset; a voice that connects with listeners deeply, especially thanks to its earthy, raw character. Written with a decidedly personal and introspective flair, ‘The Way I Feel’ showcases once again the nuances and depth of the British artist.

Championed by the likes of Rolling Stone, CLASH, and Notion, among others, Col Gerrard originally debuted last year with a string of expressive singles. The sonic references were always steeped in nostalgic pop-rock, with glimmering guitars driving an elegant and polite aural livery. ‘The Way I Feel’ marks the project’s return, seeking to build upon the momentum already gained. Judging by what we hear in the single, it’s only a matter of time until the London-based songwriter rises to national recognition.

Speaking about the inspiration behind his music, Col Gerrard explains: “I’ve always been a huge fan of David Bowie, and his ability to reach people with his music. He has always had a way of making people feel special in a way that no one else can. His lyrics haven’t always had a message, but they have always had a meaning and a feeling. No art form in the world moves me in the way that music does. It has the power to speak directly to a person’s soul.”
